How do I make a booking?

  • Online booking for one night stays is only available one month in advance at present

  • Please note: in advance of one month 2023 bookings can only be made by email enquiry or by phone 

  • Please contact us by phone or e-mail with your preferred dates and group size.

  • We’ll  arrange your reservation by return email or with a phone call.

Why can’t I book  online?

  • Our aim is to encourage bookings from those who have come to participate in active outdoor sports on the island.

  • We also wish to avoid tour companies block booking in busy periods.

  • We welcome enquiries from any individuals or groups who are keen walkers, climbers, paddlers, cyclists etc.

 

What beds do you have?

The bunkhouse sleeps 34 , 6 private en suite, 3 private with shared bathrooms & a couple of shared dorm rooms. See our Beds and Rooms page.

Is bed linen provided?

Yes. Crisp linen is provided for each guest for the duration of their stay, a fitted sheet with duvet and pillow are provided. Towels are available at an extra charge of £2 each

Do you have single gender dorm  rooms?

Yes may do, please phone if this is a preference you require.

 

Do I have to be a climber or a kayaker to stay at Skye Basecamp?

Skye Basecamp is owned by Skye Guides so we are trying to create a bunkhouse for those who have come to Skye to participate in active outdoor sports but do drop us an email to enquire.

FAQ Base camp

I would like to come with a group of friends, do you have a special price or booking system for groups?

Yes please contact us directly. It is also possible to hire the whole hostel for exclusive use for your group.

 

Do  I have to be a certain age to stay at Base camp? Can my kids stay too?

We welcome young adults over 16 at Basecamp but they must be in a private room with their family. 

 

How do I cancel a booking?

Contact us by email.  Our terms and conditions  state that if the booking is cancelled less than 14 days before arrival then a charge equal to the full booking amount will be made.
If the booking is cancelled 14 or more days before arrival then a charge equal to 50% of the stay will be made.

However if we manage to re-let your room we will refund you what we recoup.

 

How do I change my booking?

Contact us directly by email/phone and we will do our best to help you. Our office hours vary but we aim to get back to you by the evening the same day.

What storage facilities do you have?

Rooms are all locked with keys or key-coded locks. We have a safe for passports and other valuables and a garage space for larger items. It is normally possible to leave bags with us through the daytime but they may be moved slightly to allow for cleaning.

 Do you have a drying room and laundry facilities?

We have a drying room & laundry facilities are available in the evenings after our own laundry is complete. Laundry has an extra charge.

Do you have self catering facilities?

We have a large well equipped self catering kitchen which is closed at 10pm

Do you provide breakfast or other meals?

Currently we do not provide any meals for our guests.  We have a great newly fitted self catering kitchen and the supermarket is only 2 minutes walk away.

Can I bring alcohol?

Yes and we enjoy the odd tipple ourselves! There will always be a friendly and sociable atmosphere at the hostel so you are sure to meet folk to share a drink and a chat with. We ask that all alcohol and food and drink be consumed in the downstairs areas and not taken into the bedrooms. Please be respectful of others who may be up early for outdoor activities or long journeys. Quiet by 11pm please!

Can we smoke?

Only in outside designated areas and please use the bins provided to dipose of your cigarettes. Smoking in rooms will result in a £50 fine

Can I bring pets?

Sorry but assistance dogs are the only pets that we allow in the hostel.

Can we camp at  Skye Basecamp?

Unfortunately we do not have enough space to allow camping but can recommend local campsites or sites for wild camping/camper vans.

Do I need to take a towel?

Towel hire is available for £2.

I’m staying for longer than one night, will my room be cleaned?

Your room may have its bins emptied, electrical devices unplugged(as per our fire regulations) every day. 

What time is check-in and check-out?

Checkout– 10am on morning of departure so we can get everything ready for our next guests arriving. We will charge £50 for late check outs. 

Check-in; 4-8pm

Early check in: early check-in may be possible , it will depend on our workload but you can leave your bags and head off out

Late check-in: our last check in is 8pm to allow time for you to cook after arriving

The hostel is open all day to checked-in guests but we do need to get the cleaning done so access to bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen, lounge and dining room may be restricted during daytime cleaning, lifting your feet for vacuuming etc.
